As the headline suggests, the goal of this blog is to comment on trends, ideas, products and practical advice on how to maximize your home’s Outdoor Living spaces. Despite the significant challenges we’ve all faced during this Great Recession (particularly in relation to the value of real estate!), it’s undeniable that a well-designed and constructed improvement in your Outdoor Living space will continue to be one of the most strategic ways you can spend your hard-earned dollars. It will not only add significant value to your home over the long-term, but it is one of the only investments that you can fully appreciate and enjoy right away.
These factors (and many others) contribute to what I refer to as a “Backyard Revolution” currently underway in neighborhoods across the country. People are taking a good hard look at key aspects of their lives–finances, family, career goals, relationships, spiritual growth, health & fitness–and are reevaluating priorities and how they want to invest their resources. These investments are not only financial, however; one of the most sought-after resources in this new millenium is intangible: TIME (especially as defined by doing what I want, with whom I want, and when it works best with my schedule!)
A key catchphrase that has bubbled up in recent decades is “Too Much Information”. Obviously, technology has been the primary driver behind this and the pace of information overload is moving exponentially faster with each generation. We have more information than we know what to do with, fueled by fancier gadgets handling more apps that work faster than ever before. The one absolute equalizer in this dizzying dynamic of technological change is tangible and constant amount of TIME available to access all this information. A 4-G network may allow you to download 16 apps in 1/10th the time as a 3-G network, but the earth still rotates once every 24 hours and orbits the sun every 365 days. The benefits of unlimited information access only exist if you have the physical access and time to capitalize on them!
So, what does any of this have to do with improving the Outdoor Living space of your home? Everything–if you are willing to consider that making a “great escape” from the craziness of everyday life may in fact be much more affordable, accessible and achievable than you ever thought. In fact, it may be as close as YOUR OWN BACKYARD!
My name is John Buenneke and as the owner of the Archadeck franchise in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I am interested in understanding the needs and motivations of Minnesotans regarding outdoor living and how it fits into their lives. As someone who has worked in the arena of consumer marketing for over 20 years, I’ve been fascinated to observe how information is processed by people of all different shapes, sizes and colors in making purchase decisions. And as surprising as it may sound, there are some fundamental truths relating to prestige, value and perceived quality that are just as relevant in a 7-year old’s undying love for the Trix Rabbit as they are for her mom’s willingness to pay a significant premium for a Cambria quartz countertop in her kitchen instead of Formica.
I decided to invest in an Archadeck branded franchise because I have always enjoyed the outdoors and I find a lot of satisfaction in helping customers transform part of their home to enjoy their backyard just as I do. Also, I find it rewarding to work with people “from ground zero” to understand their needs and then articulate them back via a unique, custom designed space that they couldn’t have dreamed of on their own.
For three decades, Archadeck has been the leader in the design and construction of outdoor living spaces across the U.S. Founded in Richmond, Virginia in 1980, Archadeck has grown to over 70 franchise offices around the country and has designed and built over 75,000 outdoor living projects across its collective portfolio of franchisees. The wealth of experience across the Archadeck enterprise offers is unmatched within the Outdoor Living category, and each Archadeck office benefits from it through training, industry relationships and the support network of dedicated professionals both within our franchisor’s corporate office and across the network of Archadeck franchisees.
My goal with this blog will be to tap this reservoir of experience and insights to offer ideas and information that will arm customers for their own “backyard revolution.”
You can make your own Great Escape — it’s waiting right outside your back door!
